About the song:
I wrote this song in the midst of the chaos of COVID when we were mostly housebound. In many ways, not being able to live life 'normally' being around friends and playing shows felt like there were days being taken from me, like the pandemic was stealing from my youth.
I always say I’m 30-something going on 70-something. I’m the biggest oldies fan around and I wanted to captivate that spirit in my new single. JUNO Award winning producer Spencer Cheyne from OCL studios (Calgary) helped me execute the 1970’s inspired sound I was going for. “Stealing from My Youth” has these super groovy bass lines and live horn decorations paired with modern programmed drums and keys. It also features layers of harmonies and a powerful vocal hook going back and forth. I wanted the song to be like a conversation you have in your mind.
Yes, there is a lot of stress in the current situation and we’re all feeling a gamut of emotions, but there is still goodness in the world and room for music. I hope you are comforted by the warm air of hope in this song. ✌️
